A couple of oil change employees got the most adorable shock of their lives when they found an owl alive and well underneath the hood of a customer’s car.

You might expect an owl to be sleeping on top of a tree in the middle of the day or in some cases hanging in some abandoned barn but never in a location like these oil change employees found one. According to a Facebook post from Salem New Hampshire police they shared earlier today (Dec. 18, 2017) they got a once in a lifetime call to a Pepboys for assistance in dealing with an owl they found just chilling underneath some customer’s car. Apparently, the customer had no idea just how that owl gothereir in the first place. Check out their facebook post below that has since gone viral.

According to the Pepboy employees who were in charge of this customer’s car, like most people, the car came in for a simple oil change. Upon opening the hood, there towards the back of the firewall was an Eastern Screech Owl that looked very out of place in the mostly black plastics of the engine bay. Like most animals that are found underneath the hoods of cars, they are most likely seeking warmth or are chasing some dinner that might’ve also was looking for warmth.

You’ll be glad to know that this owl’s story has a happy ending. The police named the Owl “Shazam” and transported the owl to a nearby wildlife rehabilitation center, “On The Wing” where officers are happy to report that the owl is recovering from just a slight case of lethargy. From “On the wing’s” official Facebook page, they’ve commented that Shazam is,

Eating on his own. Fingers crossed he heals fine keeping his flight silent so he can get back to mother earth.

With animal stories like these that crop up now and then it is always a good reminder for people that live near wooded areas or pastoral settings, it would behoove you and possible animals that might be seeking shelter from the cold to bang your hood before turning the key.
