A risky maneuver to save time resulted in hundreds of dollars in fines and potential points on their record.
California resident and Redditor /u/JonnyBoy89 posted up some instant karma dashcam footage from Temecula, CA to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing the satisfying moment a road raging driver, who decided to use a turn only lane to go straight, gets their comeuppance and gets pulled over.
Check out his dashcam video below.
[OC]Jetta Guy Gets Some Karma
byu/JonnyBoy89 inIdiotsInCars
This incident happened at the intersection of Margarita Rd. and Pauba Rd in Temecula (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
In his video, we can see OP driving down Pauba Rd, on his way home after dropping off his son at school.
Prior to this, OP says this VW Passat driver definitely had a chip on their shoulder that day, and was clearly in a rush.
“This guy had been driving like a jerk my whole drive home. Speeding, brake checking people, running red lights, merging without blinkering. In general, rage-y.”
We then see the Passat driver pull into the right turn only lane, at which point OP thought he’d just turn right, considering there’s a police officer right there.
I guess they didn’t see the cop.
“I thought he would just put his blinker on, and I’d let him in front of me and life would go on. Then he kept going straight, so I figured he’d turn right because I saw the cop a while back.”
As OP says, instead of turning, the Passat driver does an improper lane usage violation and goes straight right in front of the cop.
OP says this is par for the course in this area.
“People do this often to save time. They do it expertly, and this guy was just dumb enough to do it in front of a cop”
We then see Temecula PD pull out, turn on their blues and tunes to pull this nitwit over.
On top of that, this is a school zone, too (see school zone sign here) which doubles fines.
“It was satisfying, to say the least,” OP concludes.
A quick google reveals that improper lane use is arguably an unsafe lane change and is subject to a $238 base fine and a point on your record.
And, since it’s a school zone, it’s double that.
Honestly, a cool grand in total fines is probably in this guy’s future after all the fees.
“I just love it when this happens. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.”/u/Saabister comments.
“The absolute gall to see the cop and just straight up do that anyway and expect it to be fine. Says a lot about several things, honestly,”/u/Hrist_Valkyrie replies.
“These events are so rare, I love it when they happen,” /u/StackThePads33 also comments.
Hopefully local traffic gets the message after more of these nimrods get caught, that you will get caught if you pull something like this, again.
These risky maneuvers increase your chances of an accident, especially pertinent considering it’s also a school zone.
99/100 you can pull this move and not get caught.
But, it only takes that one time when it can go horribly wrong for you and/or someone else.
I have no pity for these types of drivers.
This happens all the time and this isn’t Temmula Police department as they don’t have a Police department but contracts out to Riverside county sheriff department.
