This Honda dealership is selling a used Honda Civic Type R for the stealership price of $40,990 and that’s not even the worst part.

The new Honda Civic Type R is in high-demand, there’s no denying that, so a little dealer added markup seems to be the norm. But according to a post that popped up on 10th Gen Civics on Facebook earlier this week (Dec. 18, 2017) this Alhambra, Calif-based Honda dealership is charging a whopping $40,990 on a used Honda Civic Type R with thousands of miles already on the odometer, and that price was after double checking the current dealership advertised price.

The post on 10th Gen Civics shows a piece of paper with an even higher asking price at $44,995. Yup, that’s a whopping $10,005 more than a new one. That means that since the poster on 10th gen Civics facebook post exposed their price, they immediately lowered it a bit to save face. Check out the photos below as well as a screenshot from the dealership’s website.

As far as we can tell from the pictures, this is your run of the mill Honda Civic Type R. There are no additional options added that we can see that would justify such a heinous price like optional Honda Factory Performance accessories or much pricier aftermarket wheels wrapped in even higher performance tires.

For a used car with this many miles, it’s a pretty clean example sure, but consider that many members on 10th Gen Honda Civics report that more than one dealership is willing to sell a brand new Honda Civic Type R for MSRP, $34,990.

Referencing the naughty list of dealerships on CivicX.com which documents which dealerships are adding markup to Civic Type Rs, most of them come from the Southern California region where presumably demand is even higher compared to say a breadbasket state. Still, to charge that much for a used example is unheard of.

Earlier this month I wrote about how dealerships can routinely exploit consumer surplus, a prime example being this Honda Civic Type R, but to exploit it to the degree that you’re willing to bet on the misinformation of your customer and pass off a used example as good as new really shows the character of the sales department at Goudy Honda.

Way to continue to give a bad name to Honda dealerships and to leave a sour taste in the mouth of whoever buys this one once they find out they could’ve got a new one for thousands cheaper.
