This terrible driver was caught on dashcam using the shoulder to merge instead of simply lining up behind this dashcam owner.

Hamilton County-area driver and Redditor /u/ITryToPetBees shared head-shaking dashcam footage from Interstate 74 from earlier in October (Oct 8, 2026) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit, showing a driver in his brodozer, towing a UTV, refusing to merge normally, instead opting to drive onto the emergency shoulder.

Check out their bonehead move below, with the original Reddit thread linked here.

The incident happened on I-74 at the merge point where drivers connect from the 128/Hamilton Cleves Rd (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As the dashcam shows, OP is headed northwest on the 74 in the general direction of the 275 interchange.

OP is in the rightmost lane, the slow lane.

Just as he passes the on-ramp from Ohio State Route 128 (Hamilton Cleves Rd), a driver in a white GMC Denali HD towing a UTV can be seen passing him on the shoulder.

Coming from said on-ramp, instead of lining up behind OP as any sane merger would do, they opt to cut in front by way of the shoulder.

It goes without saying, but the onus to merge safely with traffic already on the interstate is on the merger.

Thankfully, nothing comes of the incident except for one close call.

“Every single time I see one of these idiots with the tires sticking out from the fender, I save the clip and then report them to the DMV when I get home. EVERY TIME. F*** those idiots,” one of the top comments from /u/m3ltph4ce reads.

“I love how many people are too stupid to control their monkey brains, and will line up right next to you with a quarter of a mile or more to adjust their speed, with plenty of room ahead of and behind you, but they run themselves off the road at the last second due to their stupidity and then get mad at you for it,” /u/Big-Horse3925 added.

“Yep! This guy chose to do this, even when he could have seamlessly merged in behind me without changing his speed at all, and then decided to flip me off as if I was the one in the wrong,” OP replied.

In Ohio, using the shoulder to merge or pass traffic is typically charged as a marked lanes violation (O.R.C. § 4511.33) or failure to yield (O.R.C. § 4511.44), which is a minor misdemeanor carrying a fine of up to $150. This specific traffic infraction also adds 2 points to your Ohio driving record. If the maneuver is deemed exceptionally dangerous, law enforcement can elevate the charge to reckless operation, which carries 4 points and potential jail time. (codes.ohio.gov.)
