Thanks to one nosy neighbor, Janis Zettel was forced to remove her ladybug VW from out of its tree.

It looks like the City of Clearfield, Utah did its due diligence and followed up on that nuisance complaint from a nosy neighbor who couldn’t stand the sight of Janis Zettel’s VW Bettle a.k.a. Ladybug. According to KSL 5 news in a live stream video they dropped for us earlier yesterday (Feb 13, 2018) city officials armed with a reach forklift took down Zettel’s beloved bug in a matter of minutes with Zettel watching not far away. With several news crews and the local newspaper at hand, more than one article has come out with Zettel’s thoughts on the matter, one which I’ve pulled the best quote from below.

It’s hard to believe but trouble for Zettel started just a little over a month ago when she received a notice in the mail informing her that she had only so many days to remove her car art. Even though Zettel got the approval from a bonafide arborist that the tree wasn’t being damaged and the car wasn’t coming down on its own anytime soon, Clearfield City officials stuck to their guns citing that this bug was a Class B misdemeanor or a nuisance vehicle.

Despite Zettel rallying support behind her and getting more than 1,000 signatures on a petition to keep her beloved bug in its home, Clearfield city officials maintained the original position on the matter.

In the video, you can see the forklift strategically placed with a securing strap around the length of the VW. Just as quickly as it was lifted up there and secured, so it came down.

If you feel even a little sorry for Zettel, rest assured this is not the end of her bug. According to the Desert News,

“We’re going to put her on our little trailer over there and make her permanent on it, and we’ll take her around, let her visit places, go in parades, things like that, because she has become very famous,” Zettel said.

You’ve got to commend Zettel’s spirit about the whole matter and root for the quirky empty bug. I’d say that that particular neighbor who alerted the authorities got more than she bargained for. Instead of seeing the ladybug stuck in a tree, she’ll have to endure seeing it at eye level on a trailer…and around town…and in parades. Sometimes it’s best to leave well enough alone.
