Hennessey Performance laid out some statements bellicose (SAT prep hiyooo) in nature in a statement to Top Gear in regards to what they plan to do with their F5 hypercar.

There’s an American car in Geneva and its owner is laying out the gauntlet in how they plan to take the Top Speed record back from the Swedes and Germans. According to Top Gear in an unofficial interview during the Geneva Motor Show earlier today (Mar. 7, 2018) some shots were fired at Bugatti and Koenigsegg in the upcoming Top Speed war that is brewing. Not only that, John Hennessey confirmed that the bespoke twin-turbo V8 under the rear decklid of their hypercar will make no less than 1,600 HP.

John Hennessey was not picking and choosing his words when it came to the fight between Koenigsegg and Bugatti at the moment,

“You’ve got Koenigsegg in first position now. Bugatti is not going to take it sitting down, so they’re gonna jump back in the game,” he says, “but I think there’s a squabble somewhere in the 280s, and about the time dust settles from those guys slapping each other about then we’ll turn up”.

In my opinion, it looks like Hennessey is somewhat annoyed with Koenigsegg’s run on American soil, specifically in Las Vegas. How dare a Swede come over and snatch the unofficial Top Speed Record out of the Hennessey Venom’s hands.

Koenigsegg infamously achieved a top speed of 284 MPH with an average speed of 277.9 MPH between the two runs solidifying its place as the fastest production car in the world.

Although it wasn’t a Guinness World record attempt with two passes in opposite directions, the Hennessey Venom GT did hit a top speed of 270.49 MPH back in 2014.

Buggati and their Chiron have not yet attempted a Top Speed run but there’s a teaser shot of the Chiron’s speedometer hitting 273 MPH in their 0-400KMH-0 record run, so there’s that. FF to 2:17 in the video below.

It feels like Hennessey is tying up a couple of loose ends with their Venom F5 to get it into its fighting form. Perhaps Hennessey is prepping an even more powerful spec for the engine just for this top speed run. If there’s anything to be said about how American’s take records, it’s with a show of pure automotive dominance.

So until the Chiron gets its 300 MPH spec tires and does their run and then Koenigsegg fires back with a run of their own will we see Hennessey come out swinging hard with their Venom F5.

This is a top speed fight I’m hankering to see play out.
