Toyota announced a new car sharing services in Honolulu, HI. Here’s how much it’ll cost you to rent those new Toyota cars around the island.

According to Toyota, if you want to rent those new Toyota’s you see around Honolulu, all you have to do is download their app. Here’s how much it’ll cost you.

There are two levels of membership.

  • $14.95/Month
    • Car rentals for $9.95/hour or 79.60/day
  • $0/Month
    • Car rentals for $12.95/hour or $103.60/day.

That’s pretty much it. All you have to do is go to your app store on your smartphone, download the Hui App, create an account and you can start renting their Toyota cars right away. You must be at least 19 years old with a clean driving record.

Right now the cars available are a Toyota Prius, Prius Prime, Camry XSE, Lexus RX350 and RX F Sport vehicles.

Things like gas, insurance, and unlimited mileage are included so presumably, you won’t have to shell out for your own gas when you return your rental.

Unlocking cars is down through your smartphone.

There are a couple of things to keep in mind before renting. You can read the entire FAQ here and the membership agreement here but I’ve listed just a couple of the bullet points below.

  • No pets unless they’re in a container. If they find fur in your Toyota rental, they’ll charge you.
  • No offroading or going off the beaten path unless you get prior permission.
  • No illegal drag racing. Although it doesn’t say you can’t legally drag their cars in some kind of closed-off street sanctioned event, you probably can’t.
  • No towing or pushing anything. That means you can’t hook up small boats or help push your buddies stuck car out of that small ditch. If you do need to push or tow something, know that there’s always U-Haul and their trucks for $20/day plus .89 a mile.

As mentioned, those are just the biggest ones that stuck out to me. Other than that, Hui looks like a legit rental outfit powered by Toyota that you can use anytime you might need a car for something. It goes without saying but renting one of these cars for more than eight hours and logically you should opt for the day rate.

Just for example’s sake, say you have lots of errands to run for your niece’s birthday party, you can use Hui to get yourself a Lexus RX350 for four hours to pick up a cake, balloons, a couple of your niece’s friend’s what have you and it’ll cost you $52. You won’t have to pay for gas, worry about insurance, or deal with rental car companies, which is nice.

Hui’s there if you need it and if you don’t…at least you know you CAN rent a nice Toyota if you want too
