It was absolute frustration with this new Honda Civic owner after he had to confirm on Reddit that his Civic doesn’t come with Honda Sensing even though the sales rep insisted it had it.

It frustrates me to no end coming across stories like this with inept car salesmen confident in their own lack of knowledge. According to a Redditor who popped up with a question about his new Civic on Reddit’s /r/Honda subreddit earlier yesterday (July 22,2018) this Honda Salesman royally screwed him over after selling him a Civic without Honda Sensing even though he insisted multiple times his car had it.

Was I scammed? 2018 Honda Civic EX from r/Honda

Honda Sensing is Honda’s suite of safety features that’s designed to alert you to things you might miss while driving. The four main features include Lane Keeping Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Road Departure Mitigation, and Collision Mitigation Braking. When all systems are active, with your hand on the steering wheel Honda sensing makes long drives and stop-and-go traffic easier to deal with (it is certainly not autonomous driving by any means.) As such, it’s a popular $1,000 option that’s ticked if it doesn’t come standard so you can understand this Civic owner’s frustration when he found out he doesn’t have Honda Sensing.

You can read his post above but long story short his Honda Salesman insisted and reassured him Honda Sensing is definitely on his new Civic. He was bold enough to say that ALL new Honda Civics come with Honda Sensing standard which is not true.

According to Honda, Honda Sensing is only standard on the Honda Civic Touring, the top of the line Honda model. On every other trim level, you can get Honda Sensing for another $1,000.

In addition, there are numerous tale-tell signs that a Civic is equipped with Honda Sensing including specific buttons on the steering wheel as well as buttons on the left side of the dashboard for collision mitigation and road departure mitigation. If that isn’t enough, there’s a giant camera behind the rearview mirror that points forward, scanning the road as well as a covered radar sensor near the driver’s fog light. It’s a no-brainer.

Many fellow Honda Redditors chimed in giving him advice that he should definitely return, reaffirm with the salesman that he thinks his Civic has Honda sensing, and get the general manager to get him in the right car as specified in his sales contract.

That Honda salesman had no excuse to pull off what he did. While a small part of the blame is on the new Civic owner for not knowing what Honda Sensing looks like, the majority of the blame is on that salesman. His responsibility is to give the customer exactly what he signed for and not another product.

I’m certainly keen to see what happens. If you’re wondering what Honda dealership it was, he claims it was this one.
