For one brief and shining moment in San Diego, this old computer chair was a bus stop.

No one’s really sure who put the computer chair there but according to this San Diego resident, it’s the funniest thing he’s seen someone do in Chula Vista in a long time. According to @CVLiving on twitter earlier today (July 26,2018) someone chained an old computer chair to a temporary bus stop A-sign. Check out the ridiculousness below.

Located on the corner of 4th Ave and Park Way in Chula Vista, California, this busy corner serves as a bus stop for both the 701 and 704 San Diego Metro Service bus lines. As such, it’s a very busy place. For one reason or another, it looks like the old bus stop was torn down, which was nothing more than a stone bench and sign. You can see the old bus stop in the Google Maps below.

My guess is that they placed original bus stop too close to that four-way stop intersection. With no lights to control traffic and with passengers loading and unloading near the cross walk, perhaps it became a safety concern. Presumably, that meant moving the bus stop a couple of feet to the right.

But, before concrete is broken up to place a new sign and and perhaps a new bench bolted down, this temporary construction sign served as the bus stop.

San Diego MTS actually responded to the above tweet, officially ending this computer chair bus stop.

A couple of San Diego residents, whom I queried about this strange bus stop, think that this was a clever joke on behalf of the MTS. Still, others took an opportunity to bemoan the loss of their shaded rest stops which are now long gone. You can read those comments in the thread below.

Is this really a Bus stop in Chula Vista? from r/sandiego

At least Chula Vista has a sense of humor either way. Hopefully, these residents get a real sign and perhaps a return of their shaded seats. With temps cresting 100 degrees daily at the moment, that would be a welcome sight for bus riders.
