It looks like the 2019 Ford Ranger takes the cake when it comes to all-out towing power.

Earlier in January, Ford announced they’re spec’ing up their Global Ford Ranger for use on American Roads, even revealed a bit later that they’re bringing a Ford Ranger Raptor, but nothing on specifics as far as capabilities go. Now, we have an idea just how stalwart and burly the 2019 Ford Ranger actually is. As per TFL Truck in an exclusive report on the 2019 Ford Ranger’s towing capabilities they put up earlier today (Oct. 4, 2018) this Ecoboosted mid-size truck will be class-leading, able to tow 7,500 pounds without breaking a sweat. Shots fired at GM, Nissan, and Toyota!

As TFL Truck delves further into, Tacoma, Colorado, and Frontier all have a payload rating of around 1,500 pounds give or take 100 pounds. But, when it comes to towing AKA bragging rights for trucks, the Ranger just smokes the competition with the Tacoma at 6,800 pounds, Colorado at 7,000 pounds (Diesel is 7,700 pounds) and Frontier at 6710 pounds. When it comes to all-out capability, it looks like Ford Ranger will be going after that “class leading” designation.

Powering this Ranger will be Ford’s 2.3L Ecoboost with undisclosed power numbers. We do know what, in the Mustang, this Ecoboost makes upwards of 310 HP and 350 lb-ft depending on the trim level. It’s Ford’s superior horsepower numbers, and diesel like torque you only usually see in a smaller turbodiesel that’s giving Ford the edge, here. All that power is routed through a 10-speed automatic. Again, look for Ford to rely on their transmission to eke out as much MPG as possible.

As one Redditor pointed out on the thread where I first came across this piece of news, noteworthy is Ranger’s Gross Vehicle Weight rating at 6,050 which is a smidge above the 6,000 pounds needed to qualify for special tax deductions for the first year of ownership.

Bradford Tax Institute reports that you can deduct up to $25,000 or 100 percent Bonus Depreciation when filing for taxes, a boon for anyone with a business.

It’s pretty much the same thing with Tacoma and Frontier don’t qualify, but certain trim levels of Colorado do with a GVWR of 6,001 pounds. Cheeky GM, very cheeky.
