No one would think about modifying a Toyota 2000 GT so if you’re going to cut one up, doing it virtually like this talented designer is A OK in my book.

Although Toyota only made 351 examples of the Toyota 2000GT and it never really sold all that well, it is one of the most important cars in Toyota’s history for several reasons. With so few made, the only way to keep a Toyota 2000GT is to keep it one hundred percent pristine for posterity’s sake. So, when I got word earlier this week (Oct. 10, 2018) that someone made a widebody Toyota 2000GT, I about did a spit-take with my coffee.

But all was for not. As per the talented Hugo Silva Design on his post earlier yesterday he shared on Facebook, it’s just an artfully designed rendering. And what a rendering at that. Check out his handiwork, below.

True to the history of this car, Hugo Silva Design rendered this Toyota 2000GT in Solar Red, one of the original six colors offered by Toyota when they first introduced this car in 1967.

Hugo takes what beloved by many Toyota 2000GT fans, it’s overall sleek and svelte looks, and turns it on its head by extending the width of this car far beyond the original 63 inches it comes with. Like any proper widebody job, it’s stuffed to the gills on all four corners with a deep-dish wheel worthy of this type of “aero kit.” After all, the only functional reason TOO put an aero kit like this is to put on some wide rear wheels.

I particularly like how he routes the rear exhaust by turning the piping 90 degrees and extending them out to the corners.

Some finessing to the rear quarter panels would be appreciated as they do look a little incomplete when viewed from the rear.

Other than that, it’s a striking design that, if anyone was to actually do in real life, would ruffle many a feather.

Keep making dope edits like this, Mr. Silva. It’s important for creativities sake.
