Acura updated its NSX GT3 for 2019 which should see teams utilizing this new platform absolutely dominating thanks to growing pains out of the way.

When Acura introduced their NSX GT3 in 2016, the car had a lot of growing pains to go through. As per the rules, they had to rip out the hybrid system as well as their SH-AWD with torque vectoring. Although they were left with a lighter car, the car was designed from the get-go to benefit from that hybrid push and claw its way with traction up front. Presumably, a lot of those initial growth issues have been rectified for 2019 as Honda announced a new and improved NSX GT3 Evo for race teams earlier yesterday (Oct. 14,2019) that’s all-around a faster, better handling, and aggressive looking GT3 competitor. Check out a couple photos of this “evolution” on an already winning formula below.

First, there’s the bodywork. This NSX GT3 EVO gets a new front splitter, diffuser, and rear bumper helping smooth things out to create a higher top speed. Presumably, that means the previous NSX GT3 had plenty of grip but could use that bit of top speed on the main straights. The updated aero also aids in cooling.

Under the rear engine cover outback, there are new turbochargers that should increase throttle response, boost control, and fuel economy, all important in long-distance stints.

Good news for teams running the older NSX GT3 as they can utilize the new ABS calibrations and upgraded Bosch display that this new GT3 EVO has.

As per Acura,

The effects of these updates, the result of constant analysis of information generated from within the global NSX GT3 Customer Racing Program over the last two years of testing and

racing, will be improved performance and reduced running costs, the result of a 25 percent increase in engine life and greater component durability.

Honda’s commitment to motorsport, as their moto says, “without racing, there is no Honda,” means that all their cars should benefit from their race efforts.

I do wonder if anything they learned from their GT3 program will trickle down into the NSX which could usee some sort of update sometime soon.
