Somehow these brilliant mechanics managed to swap in the electric motors from a Tesla P100D into a Honda S2000.

Normally I’d be upset that someone messed with the brilliant formula of a Honda S2000 that is a high-revving naturally aspirated engine and a balanced chassis that it is, but after seeing this thing rip it on a drag strip, my anger is somewhat assuaged. As per bonkers mechanic Sylvain Belanger and his completed project that just cut its teeth in the quarter-mile earlier this week (Oct. 13,2018) this Honda S2000 with a Tesla Model S P100D electric motor in it, capable of 650 HP, just ripped down the quarter-mile in 10.24 seconds, and quite effortlessly at that. Check out the amazing bit of footage below.

This quarter-mile drag race is quite interesting because both cars in the video, the Tesla and Honda, have the same powertrain, more or less. Whereas the Tesla P100D is all-wheel drive, the Honda S2000 retains its RWD setup, which you would think would be to its disadvantage except the Model S most likely weighs a good 2000 pounds less.

The result is predictable, the S2000 rips away from the Tesla Model S P100D without much drama or fanfare, which is in stark contrast to what I’m used to seeing from Honda’s running 10’s on a dragstrip.

To hit 10’s, usually an S2000 is boosted to within an inch of its life, the front tires are swapped for lightweight skinnies, and the rears are full on slicks. This S2000, on the other hand, is quite stock and all-around tame in comparison.

Here’s a full-on drag S2000 that can run 10’s below. With a large Garrett turbo hanging off the exhaust manifolds, this one’s boosted to presumably around more than twice the stock 240 HP at the crank. It’s a bucking bronco to get this Honda down the quarter-mile, quite the handful in comparison to the Tesla-powered Honda S2000.

Can you imagine this Honda P100D will be when everything’s dialed in? Let’s call it the ultimate sleeper, for sure.
