Honda doubling down on its truck division and finally completing its precision concept design language for its entire lineup seems to be resonating with consumers.
When Acura came out with their 3rd generation Acura RDX that finally implemented the luxury car division’s signature pentagon grille along with a new turbo engine, my feeling was they had a winner in their hands, and the sales reflect that. As per Acura News and their official sales report for the month of October they dropped earlier today (Nov. 1, 2018) their pokey and athletically styled crossover just hit its second best sales month since the RDX hit showroom floors in 2007.
For October, Acura sold 6,193 RDX’s which is a 75.3 percent increase month over month when compared to last year, a notable jump in sales.
Year to date, Acura has sold over 50,791 RDX’s which is 8,079 RDX’s more compared to last year at the same time.
The RDX is now Acura’s best-selling vehicle followed by, in a distant second place, the mid-size MDX with 3,955 MDX’s sold in October.
The Precision concept design language was an important and necessary step forward for the Acura brand that would dictate where the company is going when it was introduced a little over three years ago. Acura rolled out this update to their entire lineup gradually but fairly quickly.
So far, in my opinion, this design language, mainly the new grille, translates really well for the entire lineup and transformed a once dated beak design into something that, for the lack of a better word, resonates.
The luxury crossover market is one of the most hotly contested markets in the entire automotive segment so this is definitely a milestone for the Acura brand.
The best month so far for the RDX was in June with 7,292 RDX’s sold which was when this third gen RDX hit showroom floors.
Looking at the sales history of the RDX as per GoodCarBadCar, December is a particularly strong month for this best seller so I’ll be keen to see how well the RDX sells this month and the following to wrap up the year.
