This ZL1 Camaro vs Honda Civic Type R Father- Son rivalry is the type of “wholesome shit talking” the internet needs.

Co-owner of 4 Piston Racing and engine builder Like Wilson shared the hilarious moment earlier yesterday (May. 16,2019) when his friends tagged him in a Facebook thread where his Dad with a newly purchased 2019 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 brags that his newfangled muscle car might be faster than his son’s 2018 Honda Civic Type R.

If you’re not familiar with the Camaro ZL1, this isn’t just your run of the mill hotted up Camaro. The Camaro ZL1 is a legitimate track machine that, in the right hands, can put a couple of seasoned track racers in faster cars to shame.

Here’s the tail of the tape. The Camaro ZL1 and its 650 HP and 650 lb-ft is good enough for a blast to 60 MPH in 3.5 seconds. Ya, it’s wicked fast.

The Civic Type R is no slouch, either. Although it jas less than half of all that power with 306 HP and 295 lb-ft, it weighs a good 766 pounds lighter than the ZL1.

Both have run the Nurburgring with official lap times. The ZL1 in 7:29.6 and the Civic Type R in 7:43.8.

Given a tight enough course, it’s a toss-up whose faster.

But, here’s the thing. Luke builds freakishly fast drag Civics for a living. Luke’s able to more than double the power of a naturally aspirated K24 Honda engine without forced induction.

Here’s one of his record-setting drag Civic’s running 7.95 in the quarter-mile at 189 MPH. Even a Koenigsegg Agera RS at 9.96 can’t even run that fast.

Suffice to say, the son can build some crazy fast engines. Stock to stock, the Dad’s Camaro might be faster in every measurable way, given a bit of time and energy, I don’t think his Dad’s Camaro stands a chance…that is until he starts wrenching on it himself.

I don’t think this “rivalry” is anything serious, just a funny happenstance, really.

I will, however, be curious to see if anything happens car wise between the two. Maybe a drag race is in the works? Who knows! I’ll let you know either way.
