If for some reason, you blow your turbocharged factory Veloster N engine on a race track, Hyundai will most likely still honor their 10 year/100,000 mile powertrain warranty.

What good is a hot hatch with close to 300 HP, high-performance brakes, sticky Summer tires, and a track-tuned suspension if you, well, can’t take it on a track? Believe it or not, if you happen to buy a Hyundai Veloster N, Hyundai will still honor the original factory warranty if you take your Veloster N up to its limits on a racetrack.

This information came to light recently via a thread on VelosterN.com when forum member ZachFount informed his fellow Veloster N enthusiasts that this special “Track Usage and Modification” guideline existed.

Here’s a copy of what that official Hyundai Guidelines for track usage looks like below.

Here’s the most important bit verbatim

“The Veloster-N was designed for high performance at home or on the track. The warranty covers components originally manufactured or installed by Hyundai that are defective in material or factory workmanship, under normal use and maintenance, regardless if your Veloster-N has been driven on the track or autocross.”

Hyundai is notorious for having one of the best warranties in the business with a new vehicle 5 year/60,000-mile standard warranty including a 10 year/100,000-mile Powertrain limited warranty.

With this newfound information, this means if your Hyundai Veloster N’s oil pump goes out on you on the Roller Coaster at VIR at speed, starving your turbo engine with precious oil and destroying it, if you have all the proof you’ve maintained your engine as per the factory specs, Hyundai’s on the hook to give you a new engine.

Keep in mind that your experience with a warranty claim will vary wildly depending on how good a Hyundai dealership you’re dealing with. Some Hyundai dealerships are downright shady and will, if pushed, honor factory work with shoddy results.

This Hyundai owner relayed a story where his roommate needed an engine replacement thanks to poor Hyundai workmanship and the dealer really put in a used one instead of a brand new one.

If you plan to track your Veloster N regularly I’d suggest boning up on what exactly is covered under your limited powertrain warranty, make sure you’re in a good working relationship with your local Hyundai dealership, and bring it up to your local Hyundai service team that “Hey, I’m planning to track my Veloster N, what would happen if I need warranty work?” Just to gauge their reaction.

See if your local Hyundai even knows about this special racetrack addendum to the Hyundai Warranty and if they’d be up to honor it. If not, I’d suggest getting in touch with a dealership that’s up to snuff on this warranty.

It’s cool that Hyundai has such a hot-hatch that you can even buy. It’s even cooler that they’ll let you race it with a warranty.
