Hyundai will practically give you a $50 gift card if you promise to test drive one of their cars but here are some ways to bypass that.

Disclaimer: Hyundai did not contact me to post this, obviously. I literally saw a Reddit thread about some free money and decided to write some words so you can get that bread, OK.

Every year Hyundai offers prospective window shoppers on their website $50 if they put in their information and schedule a test drive of one of their Hyundais. If you’re really in the market for a Hyundai, by all means, go ahead and test drive a Hyundai.

But, if you really just want that $50. Some Redditors dropped their experiences with this money grab in a Reddit thread I came across earlier today.

Hyundai is still giving $50 Visas for visiting a dealership. from r/cars

Before you sign up for Hyundai’s $50 offer, know that you have to agree to their terms and conditions, mainly that you give them the right to

“… receive telemarketing calls or texts at this number using an automatic telephone dialing system by, or on behalf of, Hyundai and its authorized dealers.”

When you start getting e-mails, you can opt-out of all communications so no biggie.

Also, you have to be over 18, have a valid driver’s license, and live in the United States.

So, If you want to avoid a test drive altogether, the move is to select the Hyundai Veloster to test drive, and, when you show up to the dealership, specify that you really want to test drive the Hyundai Veloster N, the top of the line Veloster that only a handful of dealerships have in stock at any one time.

If they don’t have a Veloster N, tell them you aren’t interested in test driving anything else and then politely hand them the paper you’ve printed where the dealership has to approve your $50.

If they do have a Veloster N, well, you get to test drive it. Who wouldn’t want to test drive a 250 HP hot hatch? More than likely if they do have one in stock, they won’t even let you come near it with a ten-foot stick if you look the slightest bit middle class. They know someone will cough up the added mark up and they sure as heck don’t want you to ruin it.

Another method some Redditors used was blatantly, but somehow politely walking into a Hyundai dealership and proclaiming “I’m just here for the gift card.” Some dealerships were actually cool with that while other dealerships told some Redditors to leave.

You’re going to have to read the room if you want to use that method.

In the T&C’s

“….dealer reserves the final decision to redeem or refuse any reward card certificate or coupon.”

The easier method is to do the aforementioned and just test drive one of their cars. Just act like you’re somewhat interested and firmly, but politely, leave right after making sure you get your paper signed off.

If you live near a Hyundai dealership, why not try it out? $50 is $50, that’s a cheap dinner date at Panera.
