This Illinois driver is lucky to be alive after a large piece of drive shaft flew through his windshield, missing his face by inches.

This Illinois driver is thanking his guardian angel for watching out for him after one harrowing commute. According to Ray Chevrolet employee Kyle Miller in a post on Facebook earlier today (Nov. 12,2019) a customer of his came into the dealership with a broken windshield after a piece of a big rig’s driveshaft flew into his SUV, landing in the passenger seat beside him.

Check out all the unbelievable photos below.

Interstate 94 A.K.A. the Tri-state tollway, is a main artery that runs North to South through Illinois. It’s one of the busiest freeways in the area with trucks in the far right lane at all hours.

Kyle says this drive shaft came from utility truck but a driveshaft this large can be found under big rigs. too.

The driveshaft pierced through the glass, hit the passenger seat, and presumably richoted into the rear passenger area.

It’s worth pointing out, thanks to laminated automotive glass, the entire windshield didn’t shatter into skin piercing shards but broke into hundreds of tiny pieces.

As Kyle mentions, looking at the photos, there’s a good chance anyone riding shotgun when this happened wouldn’t be here with us today or they’d have some serious life-threatening injuries.

Thankfully, there were no injuries, the only casualty a broken windshield from a 90s Chevrolet that’ll probably get replaced for free thanks to auto insurance.

Unexpected situations and near misses happen all the time when we’re driving and we must be vigilant and aware of our surroundings at all times behind the wheel.

I don’t think a less aware driver would’ve fared so well in this same situation.
