A sideshow tried to kick off near Knotts Berry Farm but Buena Park police were quick to shut it down.
Even though the summer months are long gone, that doesn’t mean sideshows stop. Southern California police know this and have their sideshow task force, in conjunction with local police, on standby, ready to respond.
Buena Park police’s vigilance towards sideshow activity was put to the test earlier this weekend on Sunday night (Dec. 21,2019) when they got word that a street takeover was happening on the corner of La Palma Ave and Western, right in front of Knotts Berry Farm.
Here’s what they posted up earlier yesterday.
A takeover is when a group of cars and their drivers shut down an intersection by stopping cars from entering. With streets closed to traffic, they use the large piece of impromptu pavement before them as a makeshift skid pad, mostly doing donuts and burnouts.
Fueled by social media, this is a popular way for drivers to gain clout and enjoy a bit of an adrenaline rush.
Here’s what that intersection looks like on Google Maps.
This is a heavy traffic area and people, aware of what was going down, made a call into the local police.
Whoever chose that spot wasn’t exactly the brightest because the police department was 1.5 miles away.
With nowhere to run and choked by their own location, it was easy pickings for police, snagging six and impounding four cars for various charges.
Keen eyes will notice a mid-2000’s Hyundai Accent Coupe on the back of a tow truck, presumably towed away shortly after the pic was taken.
According to BPD,
“You can be arrested for aiding and abetting as well as spectating. Can’t catch everyone, but we’re more than happy to arrest the ones we can.”
Takeovers, sideshows, whatever. I hope it’s a trend that dies in 2020.
