It’s yellow, sleek, and makes brap-brap noises, it’s a JDM car on the cover of Travis Scott’s new album.

Showcasing rad cars from the 80’s and 90’s on music videos, album cover art, and lyrics of pop songs is becoming more and more a thing now that these once older cars are suddenly cool, case in point, Travis Scott. His new Jackboys album dropped earlier today (Dec. 27,2019) and Scott’s main yellow car is a 1993 Mazda RX-7 Touring Edition owned by Jonathan Oregon of Enticed Motorsports.

Super Street got the scoop on this one of a kind Mazda months earlier when they did a feature for the owner.

This Mazda RX-7 keeps its original 13B 1.3L Rotary engine (rotary engines are notoriously small) and throws on a bridge port and turbo upgrade good for 450 HP just on pump gas.

Stock, and as per Japan’s Gentleman’s agreement, stock 13Bs supposedly only have 276 HP.

I know I wasn’t the only one relieved to hear the iconic sound of a rotary exhaust in Scott’s music video and not some dubbed V8 sound.

Originally, this RX-7 was factory red but the entire body, engine bay, etc was resprayed Competition Mica Yellow. Keen eyes will notice the 1999-spec front bumper. According to his feature, Jonathan plans to swap on the bumper and side skirts from that year eventually.

Around all four corners are a set of SSR SP1s.

RX-7’s are a hot commodity, and if you want to get one for yourself, you’d better search now. According to Bring A Trailer, these JDM legends fetch anywhere between $20,000-$60,000 depending on mileage and overall condition. As of this writing, there’s a low-mileage FD that’s already hit $22,000 with three days left on the auction.

If you’re wondering, the other car on his cover and in the video is a 1988 BMW E30 M3. According to BMW Blog, that one’s being currently auctioned off.

There’s also a handful of other JDM cars in Scott’s videos including a Supra and NSX but those cars don’t get nearly as much screen time as the ones above.
