If you attend a car meet in Sacramento, don’t be surprised if you get a notice in the mail warning you about street racing.

Sacramento police are letting car meet attendees know that they’re watching your every move and will take necessary action if you violate city and state vehicle codes, particularly about being a spectator at a street race. According to Sacramento car enthusiast and meet organizer @Hard_Park on Instagram, after one meet he organized, allegedly Sacramento police where roaming around their meet, writing down license plate numbers. When he got home later that week, he received this notice in the mail.

Check out the mail he received below.

Linked here and here are the city and state codes that involved street racing included in the mail.

Let me make clear, Sacramento police aren’t cracking down on car meets. Organizing, attending, and taking part in car meets is perfectly legal and is something car enthusiasts in and around Sacramento can enjoy.

Sacramento police and car enthusiasts know all too well that it’s what happens after car meets where trouble arises, particularly organizing impromptu street races, finding traffic-less intersections to drift in, and encouraging on-the-spot burnout contests of sorts.

As mentioned and included in Sacramento’s vehicle code is a reminder that you don’t have to street race to get in trouble, just attending a street race is enough to get slapped with a $500 fine.

This isn’t even a new ordinance, this is something Sacramento passed in 2005, 15 years ago. According to an article from 2005, with violations that still stand today.

For a first offense, spectators can face fines of $500. After that, penalties jump to $1,000 and the possibility of jail time.

Constant education is the name of the game.

Sacramento police and everyone else knows that with every passing year there’s a new crop of car enthusiast that needs a friendly reminder that there are consequences to illegal car activity, ones that’ll hurt your wallet by up to a $1,000 and possible jail.

Enjoy car meets, just don’t street race or attend one afterward.
