Reigning 2019 WRC Champ Ott Tanak drove off the road into some trees during SS4 of the 2020 Monte Carlo Rally.

It was a hairy scene earlier today (Jan. 24,2020) as Estonian Rally Driver Ott Tanak drove off the road during SS4 of the Monte Carlo Rally.

According to his digital speedometer, Tanak was going well over 185 KMH (or 114MPH) when he flew off the road. Wow.

Check out on-board and fan submitted video from the scene of the crash below.

SS4 is the morning’s second stage, a 12.8 mile stretch on Saint0Clement-sur-Durance.

Ott Tanak and his co-driver were flying at high-speed before entering a right-left kink. Tanak’s Hyundai rally car momentarily lost traction, his wheels in the air for a fraction of a second. Before his Hyundai could land, regaining control, Tanak essentially ran out of road and landed halfway into a ditch before rolling over several times.

According to AutoSport, both Tanak and his co-driver Martin Jarveoja are most likely OK and both were flown to the nearest hospital for further evaluation.

Tanak’s Hyundai appears to be badly damaged after rolling several times. It’ll be quite a while before they can properly assess the damage to determine if Tanak can continue on.

This is Tanak’s debut season with Hyundai after shocking fans, making the switch from Toyota Gazoo Racing last year.

Hyundai have their work cut out for them. I hope Tanak and Jarveoja are A OK and Hyundai’s mechanics can sort it all out ASAP.
