Not only is the mid-sized truck from Honda selling, it’s close to breaking sales records.

This year marks 15 years since the Honda Ridgeline’s been in production and according to Honda’s January report, sales of this mid-sized truck spiked by close to 60 percent month-over-month.

Like most car manufacturers today, trucks more than make up most their sales. For Honda, it’s about a 60/40 split for trucks/cars.

For January, Honda moved 3,083 Ridgelines, 57.1 percent more than January 2019

The Honda Ridgeline’s been quietly gaining momentum through 2019, racking up 33,334 Ridgeline sales, almost besting the 2017 sales year, a record year for the second gen Ridgeline.

Keeping numbers in perspective, the Honda Ridgeline’s 33,000+ sales is nowhere near the mid-size King Toyota Tacoma’s 248,000 sales last year. I don’t even have to mention Ford F-series and their 896,526 sales. The Ridgeline’s competitors are simply in a different league.

But looking at the year to date changes, according to Good Car Bad Car, Honda Ridgeline is one of four trucks, including the GMC Sierra, Ram Pickup and Toyota Tacoma, that saw overall sales growth in 2019.

Honda Ridgeline sales grew 8.1 percent and Sierra, Ram, and Tacoma saw 5.8, 18, and 1.2 percent increases respectively.

The surprising thing is Honda’s Ridgeline has remained relatively unchanged for 2020 except for the addition of a standard 9-speed automatic, Apple Car Play and Android Auto, and Honda Sensing, Honda’s suite of safety and driver assistive features no longer just an option.

I honestly thought sales for Ridgeline would peter out over the years since the second gen’s introduction as Honda loyalists found out, financed, and took up all available Ridgeline stock.

But I think the word is out, if you want all the capabilities of a truck with a car-like driving experience, the Honda Ridgeline can’t be beat. Ridgeline is the only truck where you can have your cake and eat it too. Yes, you can coddle your back with its superior ride over rough roads, but you can also tow a 5,000 pound boat to the lake if you want.

Perhaps enough reviews, ownership experiences, and test drives convinced Tacoma, Frontier, Colorado, and Sierra shoppers that they should give Ridgeline a fair shake. Honda has the data but my guess is that this influx of sales are now from mid-size truck cross shoppers.

It’s no mystery I’m a fan of this unibody truck and look forward to next months sales numbers as the Ridgeline continues to buck the trend, surpassing critics expectations.
