This eBay reseller had no idea where his Panasonic Flip Clock would end up, that is until he tuned into the 2020 Super Bowl and saw his clock on live TV during an ad spot.

Often you sell something on eBay and don’t hear about what happens to that item because, well, it’s not yours. This eBay seller not only found out where his item went, millions of Americans saw it at the same time, too.

Here’s a screenshot of his post as shared on a Facebook group including photos of his text exchange with the advertising agency responsible for getting movie props.

And here’s the Super Bowl Commercial featuring the Jeep Gladiator and this eBay seller’s clock.

According to iSpotTV, Highdive Advertising was responsible for this 60-second spot. Although they’re based out of Chicago, presumably they have contacts in Hollywood to get this kind of prop-finding done.

With a final sale price of $599.99, these older model clocks have quite a cult following and rightfully so. Some Panasonic RC-6025 clocks in good condition sell as little as $150 but, seeing how they needed this clock ASAP, this ad agency paid in the higher end of the completed listings curve.

Can you imagine if this eBay seller knew what was at stake behind this acquisition? He probably would’ve asked for much more.

60 second Super Bowl Commercials cost advertisers upwards of $10M.

As per the eBay ad, the final sale date was Jan 18. With the Super Bowl a little over two weeks away, this shoot must’ve been planned, produced, shot, and edited in record time.

These style of clock are a mainstay of movies and TV Shows looking for that retro look including Back to the Future, Criminal Minds, and even on The Sopranos.

It’s cool to find out that something so plain as a clock can become famous thanks to the right connections.
