If you’re a Tesla employee, you will have to find somewhere else to get your fix before, during, or after work.

According to an anonymous source, Tesla employees received an e-mail earlier yesterday (July 30.2020) stating all Tesla facilities in the United States will go Tobacco-free starting Saturday Aug, 1, 2020. In their announcement, Tesla spells out what isn’t allowed anymore and lists out their reasons they’ve come to this decision.

Here’s what the e-mail said verbatim,

We are continuously working to support your health and wellness both inside and outside of work. We also believe that anyone coming on site at Tesla-employees, contractors or visitors-should expect a healthy and smoke-free environment. Afterall, healthy air is a byproduct of our mission at Tesla. Starting August 1 2020. Tesla will be smoke, vape and tobacco free across all US locations.

What This Means:

• All smoking. tobacco and vape products will be prohibited on Tesla property including parking lots, inside personal vehicles on Tesla property, outdoor seating areas and break areas.
• Prohibited products include any tobacco or non-tobacco products such as cigarettes, pipes, hookahs, joints, and cigars. Additionally, electronic delivery devices or vape pens, commonly referred to as e-cigarettes, e-cigars and e-pens also prohibited.
• Smoking on property and will close completely by August 1

• If you choose to smoke, you may not smoke on Tesla property, and out of courtesy, we ask that you not smoke on our neighbor’s property.

It is not uncommon for a company to implement a no-smoking policy at their workplaces. While this may seem discriminatory to smokers, Tesla has a responsibility to foster and uphold a safe working environment for all employees.

With just 15 percent of the U.S. population over 18 identifying themselves as smokers, it is unfair to the large majority of employees to work in an area where second hand smoke is a possibility.

In addition, as mentioned by their e-mail, visitors coming to Tesla facilities expect a healthy breathing environment upon arrival and during their visit.

And, when it comes down to it, healthier employees mean fewer health insurance claims later on down the line. Of course, no one in Tesla’s management will admit that as a reason.

So, if you’re a smoker or enjoys vaping, as of this writing, you have less than 24 hours to enjoy smoking on Tesla properties.

That, or you can request a transfer to another Tesla location not in the United States.
