The organizer is surprised the event lasted as long as it did.

For 11 blissful weeks, Morgan Hill residents and car enthusiasts around Santa Clara had a silver lining at the end of their weekend, a quiet Cars and Coffee-type car meet in front of the local movie theater. Well, it seems good wasn’t good enough for one nosey Santa Clara County resident as according to the MHCC organizer in an announcement on social media earlier today (Sept. 24,2020), he can no longer organize his giant meets after the county threatened him with a $5,000 fine. Apparently said nosey resident pointed out several MHCC attendees walking around sans face mask with an overall lack of social distancing.

The most important part reads,

It is with much regret that I have to inform everyone that the County Of Santa Clara has shut down our MHSS events until further notice. There was a number of complaints made about the number of people seen without masks and gathering in groups as I repeatedly warned everyone in the event posting and at the events.

A fellow C&C organizer in Portola threw in his .02 on the matter.

Santa Clara County, along with the surrounding Bay Area counties, has been hit particularly hard with Covid-19 cases with over 20,000 cases and rising, not to mention 300+ deaths.

While outdoor gatherings of 60+ people are currently prohibited all over California, no matter what color the county is, it seems Santa Clara county has been kind to MHCC since these meets have been going on for over 11 weeks now.

It’s understood that indoor gatherings are the worst, and it’s easier to socially distance (with masks) in an outdoor setting.

Even that small task, to mask up and keep apart, was too tall an order for some MHCC attendees.

Here’s what Morgan Hill Cars and Coffee looked like via social media.

Nevertheless, if you still want to show up at this Cars and Coffee hot spot on Sunday morning, I don’t see why not. You just have to do it unofficially, patronize the local stores, coincidentally show up with your other car friends, mask up and socially distance. You didn’t hear this from me.

I should note Morgan Hill Car and Coffee has been in existence for several years, as far as I know, as early as 2018 under different organizers and at different locations.

It just that this MHCC at this place is now postponed.

Hopefully, California gets out of this Covid-19 pandemic within the next few months and we can all return to normal. Doing your part, wearing a mask, social distancing, and washing up, among other directives, ensures we get to that normal sooner rather than later.
