Here’s why this driver’s high-speed run through Tokyo is worth a second look.

A popular video shared by Racing Spec is going around showing an absolutely bonkers Honda S2000, boosted to over 500 HP, straight bombing it through Tokyo, Japan, his speedometer touching and going over 300 KMH (that’s 186 MPH in freedom units.)

With close to 9.9 million views in under a week, this video’s gone viral.

Check out the insanity for yourself below.

The S2000 is blasting through what looks like Tokyo’s Metropolitan Expressway. Known for its exceptional roads (for a number of reasons including using more cement and better upkeep) and courteous drivers, this S2000’s exploits are believable.

Japanese tuners are also known to be some of the best artisans under the hood so, pushing the S2000’s little 2 liter F20C into making more than twice its stock power reliably isn’t out of the realm of possibility.

Not to mention, this driver is fearless, driving with a no holds barred, pedal to the metal reckless abandon.

But, take a closer look and…this driver is going ba**s to the walls a little to perfect. It’s as almost if this driver isn’t real…at all.

Then, pop over to the comments and your suspicions are concerened.

….It’s a sim (which explains a lot.)

Dead giveaways include,

  • The driver shifting with his right hand even though he’s sitting in a RHD car.
  • There are several moments where, instead of spinning out, he simply bumped into the concrete freeway walls.
  • Tokyo’s sky is supposedly lit up thanks to the city’s metropolitan lights whereas in this video, the sky is completely dark.

Supposedly this is Assetto Corsa, a popular sim racing video game released in 2013 renowned for its realistic graphics, lifelike physics, and strong user supported community.

The track this driver is using is Shutoko Revival an, according to the track’s patreon, “optimized, complete, and detailed version of Tokyo’s Metropolitan Expressway to date!”

In fact, the Racing Spec youtube channel is a racing sim channel.

“It had me fooled, commented Facebook user Ricky Silva. “Then once I seen that contact with the wall and he didn’t spin out. I was in like there’s no way.”

The video had me fooled, too!

Originally, I was going to blog about how this tuner is going ham on Tokyo’s highways in his boosted S2K but, when I delved deeper (i.e. read the comments,) I found out the truth.

I have to say, for 2013, the graphics are absolutely mind blowing, a far cry from the last sim I seriously played, Gran Turismo 2 (yeah, the one on PS1.)

Well done, Assetto Corsa.
