This bonehead opted to risk a T-Bone accident over waiting a couple of seconds for the all-clear.

Portland-area driver and Redditor /u/ADillyDweeb shared head-shaking dashcam footage from earlier last weekend (Sept 12, 2026) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit, showing an impatient right-on-red turner refusing to yield at all and instead opting to expose themselves to a T-bone accident, which they avoided by mere inches.

Here’s how it all played out below with the original Reddit thread linked here.

The incident happened at the intersection of Cesar E. Chavez Blvd. and E Burnside St. (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As the dashcam shows, OP is headed south down Cesar Chavez generally towards the 26.

As he approaches the intersection with Burnside, drivers take the opportunity to turn right on red before he reaches the intersection.

Instead of waiting a beat for their direction of travel to get the green and right as OP crosses the limit line, some doofus in a silver Honda CR-V brute-forces his way to the leftmost lane, on a T-bone collision course with OP’s front bumper set for the side of his CR-V.

Thankfully, OP emergency brakes in time, narrowly avoiding what would’ve been one nasty T-bone accident.

“They also could have just turned into the correct lane line the other guy did,” the top comment from /u/FredBubbles points out.

“Now that’s asking too much. They were in a rush and are more important than you and I,” OP sarcastically replied.

“This is another reason why a right turn on red is a stupid idea (assuming that applies here) – some fraction of drivers is not capable of correctly judging when it’s safe, even without considering pedestrians potentially crossing,” /y/Astriania shared.

In Portland, Oregon, failing to yield while making a right turn on red can be cited under Oregon’s traffic-control/right-of-way laws, with the presumptive fine generally around $265–$440 depending on the specific violation and circumstances. (Oregon Courts) Oregon does not use a traditional points system; instead, adult drivers face restrictions after 3 convictions/preventable accidents within 24 months and suspension after 5. (Oregon)
