Or how to test drive a Ford Maverick without bothering dealerships, your friends, or messing around with Turo.

Maverick Truck Club forum member desousa90 noticed a familiar site driving by his local U-Haul, a Ford Maverick was parked with the rest of the rental fleet with U-Haul decals affixed indicating it’s immediately available for rent.

Check out a photo of what they saw below.

U-Haul now has Ford Mavericks

Desousa90 lives in Florida and presumably that’s where he saw the above one.

Forum member ‘Larry the Lariat’ also saw a Ford Maverick at his local U-Haul.

“The U-Haul in Ft. Lauderdale on West Broward Blvd has two,” LAL commented.

While it’s true, you can rent a Maverick, or any of their mid-size rental trucks for as little as $19.95, that’s before the .69 cent/mile rate, tax, rental insurance (if you so opt for,) and that hidden $1 environmental fee charge you find out about when paying is added, so, keep that in mind.

If you genuinely want to use the Maverick for around-town hauling duties, you’re in for an OK time as the Maverick has a 54″x53″ bed size with an impressive 1,500 pound payload capacity.

But, if you actually want to try out the Maverick and test drive one, this U-Haul rental might be the best way to do it.

A blast down the freeway and a bit of around-town driving should tack on another 20-ish miles which, at 69 cents a mile, only adds less than $14 to your bill.

A fun afternoon of test driving a U-Haul Maverick can be yours for less than $40, total. (That’s assuming you forego the rental coverage.)

If you have a credit card, you can probably use their secondary rental car insurance, especially if you opt out of U-Haul’s $25 damage protection.

I’d look at your credit card’s rental insurance policy to confirm the deets as, according to one forum member, their credit card does not cover rental trucks.

But, looking at American Express’s rental car insurance details, you presumably can.

The Ford Maverick’s GVWR is around 5,200 pounds, well under the 10,000 pounds GVWR limit.

So, if you want to test drive a Ford Maverick for not a lot of money without the hassle of dealing with salespeople, keep an eye out at your local U-Haul.
