The witness tells Reddit that he ended up calling 9-1-1.

Redditor /u/expert-departure8817 shared smartphone footage of a driver in a red Hyundai Elantra suffering from what we later learned was a medical emergency as he drove through South Salt Lake in the greater Salt Lake City, UT area.

Check out the smartphone footage he captured below.

The accident happened near the intersection of Stratford Ave and S 700 E, the exact location on Google Maps (linked here.)

As his video shows, the driver in the red Hyundai Elantra is ping-ponging back and forth all across S 700 E.

At one point, one of her tires flies off, most likely due to running over or hitting something before he started filming.

The Elantra driver’s driving pattern looks a lot like someone driving under the influence, which, as we later find out, is not the case.

“Hit the brakes, dude,” we can hear our recorder say. “Hit the brakes!”

The Elantra driver tries their best to stay in their lane and, instead of braking, at several points, accelerates instead.

It all comes to an unfortunate end when the Elantra driver slams into the back of an Amazon delivery van.

Thankfully, we can see the Amazon delivery driver walking back to his delivery vehicle, well clear of the crash.

E.D8817 gave us this update as a follow-up,

Other Redditors in the comments surmise that this woman probably had a diabetic episode of some sort, AKA a diabetic hypoglycemic crash.

“If their (diabetics) blood sugar drops too low (or is too high indicating lack of insulin to transport it to cells), then they can become confused, disoriented, combative, and even violent.” /u/Rhodieman comments.

Googling around I could not find any updates from local Salt Lake City news or otherwise so, his video and comment is pretty much it.

While unfortunate for all parties involved, if you’ve read this far, it’s probably a timely reminder if you’re diabetic or have a diabetic in your life to go over any Plan A and B’s they have just in case of a diabetic episode.
