99.9% of people on social media agrees that this is so true about East Coast & West Coast personality.

I recently came across the podcast clip again on YouTube and am now sharing it with you all.

Check out the clip below.

“On the East Coast people are kind but not nice and on the West Coast people are nice but not kind.”

Falzone then goes on to describe how the original quoter gives an example about if a stranger comes upon you having a flat tire.

Essentially, if you get a flat tire on the West Coast, they’ll commiserate with you for a brief moment, say how it sucks that this happened to you, but will ultimately give an excuse to move on, not helping you…at all.

In contrast, East Coasters will give it to you straight, might even insult you over your circumstances like how you don’t have certain tools or don’t know how to change it for yourself, but will actually help you change your tire.

To the thousands that came across this video and the same quote online, it really resonates with them, most agreeing that this is 100 percent true.

“As a person who grew up in the East Coast and moved to the West, this is the perfect description. The “support” I received from my fellow West Coasters seemed really sweet, but when it wasn’t back up with actions, I was confused. It was a cultural shock.” says Rin Ila.

“Born in LA… lived their 23 years. Living in NYC for 15 years… this couldn’t be truer,” says Youtube commenter Kenneth Kerr.

“I’m from the East coast and I swear I say this phrase all the time “Now I have to help this d***a**, “Alex Tafolla honestly types out.

As a Californian, since I know how to change my own tire, any time I’ve needed to swap a flat out on the streets, I’ve never needed or encountered help from anyone, so this quote mostly doesn’t apply.

Why this is true, it’s a lot to do with the culture around here.

People on the West Coast tend to be more independent and, thanks to how cities and suburbs are built, it’s very car-centric. In other words, it’s easier to isolate yourself, never having to form any strong bonds and connections to survive. It’s very self-centered.

People on the East Coast, America is only less than 300 years old and what shaped much of what made America, a real immigrant rags-to-riches story, survives in the East Coast today. It’s expensive as heck to live on either coast but in the East Coast there’s the tight-knit solidarity and common struggle to make it that binds people together, it’s “in their blood” so to say.

So, when it comes to helping others, West Coasters tend to be detached, aloof, and wary whereas East Coasters, it’s second nature to get their hands dirty to help their fellow man.

Regardless of what coast you live on, it’s always good to know the basics of car maintenance and to know how to get yourself out of a rut (literally and figuratively.)

While you can’t always rely on others for help, you’re more likely to find some honest-to-goodness help if you’re ever stuck and in an automotive pickle anywhere on the Eastern Seaboard.
