Here’s everything you need to know about Ford’s not-so-secret Ford Shareholder Vehicle Discount program.

Ford’s Shareholder Vehicle Discount program was a perk of being a Ford stockholder. All you had to do was buy and hold 100 shares of Ford stock for at least six months, apply to Ford’s Shareholder Vehicle Discount Program, and get approved for Ford X-Plan pricing.

According to Downs Ford,

Partner Recognition pricing (X-Plan) is a special pre-determined price, which is:

Ford Employee (A-Plan): Dealer Invoice -(0.4% * Dealer Invoice) + Administration Fee* ($275 Administration Fee).

For example, if you’re looking for a 2023 Ford Mustang GT 2dr Fastback, dealership invoice is $36,428.

Using the above formula, X-Plan pricing says, as a qualifying shareholder, you’d only pay $35,245.88.

Keeping in mind MSRP for said Mustang is $38,345, being a Ford shareholder means you’d lock in a price that’s at least $1,917 cheaper than what a non-Ford shareholder would get.

Here’s what the application looked like.

If you bought Ford stock on April 3,2020, at $4.24/share, it’d technically cost you $424 to buy 100 shares and get X-Plan pricing, a no-brainer if you had plans to buy a Ford vehicle within the next six months.

As of this blog post, Ford shares are 2.5x more, so the ROI via discount is much smaller depending on what Ford vehicle you choose.

So, can you still buy 100 shares of Ford stock to qualify to apply for Ford’s Shareholder Vehicle Discount Program?

Unfortunately no.

According to Ford Authority,

“…as of June 1st, 2022, that will no longer be the case as the Ford shareholder vehicle discount program is now set to end.”

And even if you got in, the last day to use the special X-Plan pricing discount was December 31, 2022 so the show’s over (for now) on this not-so-secret way to get a big discount.

If you still want X-plan pricing, and you aren’t eligible, there are still ways.

According to Bill Brown Ford,

“Eligible Ford Employees or retirees may sponsor up to 4 pins per year for any friend or neighbor.”

With 186,000 current employees and many more retirees, chances are you know somebody who works for Ford, worked for Ford, or knows someone who knows someone (you get the picture.)

I’m not going to spell it out for you but, if you really want that discount, you’re going to have to ask them a favor to add you as one of their annual X-Plan pricing eligible pins (gasp! social interaction?

Chances are they pins to hand out, they just haven’t had the opportunity to do so.

Ford may bring back this shareholder discount vehicle program in the future but as far as 2023 and the immediate future is concerned, you’re out of luck.
