The other driver had the nerve to say OP was literally going 1000 MPH.

Presumed Miami resident and Redditor /u/disturb3dkid shared shaking my head-worthy dashcam footage to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing the surprising moment a red light running driver turning left almost broadsided him despite OP clearly having the green light.

Check out his dashcam video below.

The incident happened at the intersection of SW 157 Ave and SW 80 St. in West End, Miami, Florida (exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As we can see in OP’s video, he’s driving on SW 157th Ave towards the SW 80 St. intersection at an arguably acceptable (but technically speeding) 38 MPH.

The speed limit on this street is 35 MPH.

OP is technically in the 15 MPH school zone, but according to the dashcam time readout and the speed limit sign, he’s not travelling through during the 15 MPH speed limit enforcement hours.

OP clearly has the green light and right of way entering the intersection but, like a lot of places, drivers continue to turn despite already having a red light.

His dashcam readout even sees him slow to below the speed limit to around 28 MPH.

You can see drivers in the other lane to his left stopped because the other drivers turning are not yielding. Those in the comments kind of put the blame on them, too. Because they’re not going and asserting their right of way, the other drivers feel empowered to keep turning on red.

Drivers stopped in the other lane despite having the right of way.

One driver in a black Ford F-series thinks he can beat OP across the intersection but slams on his brakes mere feet from broadsiding him.

With his window open, the offending driver then has the stones to tell OP that,

“You’re going like 1000 MPH bro….you’re going a 1000 MPH.”

To which OP emphatically yells back, “I have a green light! What do you have?”

If this isn’t a case of driver to driver gaslighting, I don’t know what is.

“Over half the cars in this video are all driving like idiots,” /u/ArminTamzarian10 comments.

“Don’t stop, just go, ignore the idiots. Stopping only validates their b*lls**t and slows everyone else down,” /u/beardedbast3rd recommended.

There’s some truth to what /u/beardedbast3rd said.

There’s a balancing act between asserting your right of way and driving defensively that you have to gauge how to employ in situations like this.

OP did the right thing by going, despite the hare brained actions of those turning.

The other drivers in the other lane should take heed and inch forward, enough to show they’re serious about going but still keeping a safe distance to slam on their brakes at a moment’s notice.

How do you handle red light runners like this?
