Thankfully, a police officer was nearby who witnessed the entire incident.
Presumed Miami resident and Redditor /u/Tetegra shared scary dashcam footage from his wife’s car showing the unbelievable moment a woman driving with her mother failed to check cross traffic and blindly turned left, right into his wife’s car, broadsiding her in the process.
Check out OP’s wife’s dashcam footage below.
[OC] Happened to my wife today
byu/tetegra inIdiotsInCars
As mentioned, this happened in Miami, FL as the other driver exited N. Kendall Dr onto highway 94 (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
In OP’s wife’s dashcam footage, we can see her driving along US 94. To her left, we see another driver in a white Honda Civic turn out of the nearby Kendall Acres Apartment complex.
As the screenshot of her POV before the accident shows, there’s a wide enough space between lanes of opposing traffic for cars turning left to pause and wait.
The driver (a daughter with her mother, OP confirmed) turns left and barrels towards OP’s wife’s car without slowing.
“The driver merged into the line my wife was in without any slow down.”
She practically gets pit maneuvered into a crash barrier attenuator before getting hit by the same driver (presumably)…again.
Thankfully, OP reports that his wife is, as of this blog post, OK
“Other than deployed side airbags, front and rear of the car also badly damaged. Received the iPhone emergency message from my wife’s iPhone seconds after the impact…Ambulance was immediately called, and my wife got rushed to the nearby hospital. Fortunately, no internal injuries were found after several x-ray and CT scans.”
If you’re wondering, crash detection is available on iPhone 14 and newer.
As mentioned, a nearby police officer saw the whole thing.
“A police car was right next to my wife’s car when the accident happened and witnessed the whole incident.”
Those in the comments were flabbergasted at the other driver and offered their well-wishes to his wife.
“Get a lawyer and buy that dream car. She about to get paid. In like 5 years lol,” /u/Ooowwwww commented.
“She is very lucky to be alive. The guard rail did punch through the car,” /u/Aircraftman2022 added.
If that accident wasn’t enough, OP mentions that, following her wife’s ambulance to the hospital, he witnessed the aftermath of a similar accident.
“Ironically, When following the ambulance to the hospital, I witness the aftermath of another accident, on the same street just 300 yards away. The victim also got T-boned by another car.”
If this isn’t yet another data point for you to get a dashcam, I don’t know what is, especially if you live in the Miami area.
