Not only did the driver go around without headlights, he had the nerve to blame the dashcam owner for their stupidity.
Presumed Vermont resident and Redditor /u/BenThereDoneTh4t posted dashcam footage (Dec 1, 2023) from Williston, VT to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing the face palm-inducing moment when he almost crashed into a driver exiting a shopping center because they didn’t have their headlights on.
On top of that, the other driver drove over a median with plants, and then proceeded to blame OP for the accident of his own doing.
Check out OP’s dashcam video below.
[OC] Turn your lights on!
byu/BenThereDoneTh4t inIdiotsInCars
The incident took place off of Maple Tree Place in, as mentioned, Williston, VT (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As OP’s video shows, it’s not only dark out, it’s raining, too.
Vermont law states that, not only do headlights have to be on a half hour before and after sunset and sunrise, like most states, they must be on in snow and rain, too.
OP makes a right turn out of the Best Buy parking lot and almost crashes into another car without their headlighst on making a left turn onto Maple Tree Pl.
Still without the headlights on, we can see the driver drive over a center lane divider filled with plants.
Probably thinking OP’s near accident with him is what caused him to run over the center lane divider and not because he couldn’t see it without his headlights on in the middle of a rainy night, he honks at OP.
“Your lights are not on!” we can hear OP kindly, but firmly, yell over to the young driver.
Confirming that the other driver is truly is off his rocker, the man gets out of his car, makes a show out of taking a photo of OP’s license plate, and threatens him with legal action.
“I got your plates. I’m going to report you to the department, and then you’re going to get sued. Alright?” we can hear him shout back.
LOL!
“If he had his lights on then maybe he wouldn’t have smoked that median,” /u/CocheeseIV replies sarcastically, pointing out the painfully obvious.
“I would be willing to bet that this is a teen driving his mom or dad’s car and is panicking because he knows he f***** up lol. He took a pic of your license plate and threatened to sue in a (poor) effort of covering his tracks for whatever fabricated excuse of a story he’s going to go tell his parents when he gets home,” /u/No_Win6358 surmised.
“If his parents believe him and insurance gets involved because he hit the median and thinks he can blame you, then he’ll be in for a rude awakening thanks to your dashcam.”
OP confirms that since the incident, he hasn’t received anything about this in the mail, nor has his insurance contacted him.
Here’s yet another data point in favor of getting a dashcam if you haven’t already.
