What happened to this Mercedes is the sad truth behind the fate of most concept cars and exhibits.

Georgia resident and Redditor /u/1DucksOnQuack stumbled upon one of the strangest objects discarded at this Atlanta-region recycling plant, a futuristic, egg shaped pod with Mercedes branding on it.

/u/1DucksOnQuack shared his unique find to the /r/JustRolledIntoTheShop subreddit, and it was determined this wasn’t some kind of Mercedes concept car, but what they called the MBUX Seat exhibit.

Atlanta is home to Mercedes HQ in the United States.

Check out his photos below.

And this wasn’t the first time this exhibit was spotted as another Redditor found it propped on a rolling rig presumably at the same recycling center earlier this year.

To the regular recycling center visitor, it looks like Mercedes tried to build a submarine.

Commenters on Mercedes’s Facebook post on this exhibit even wondered if it was a hovering car.

In reality, its purpose is far less exciting (depending on who you ask.)

As mentioned, it’s a seat exhibit made in 2020 specifically to highlight the new and improved Mercedes S-Class interior experience, dubbed MBUX.

Basically, the inside was designed to show off how the interior of the S-Class will feel at expos and conventions without bringing an entire car inside.

If you didn’t know what this was and woke up in it, you’d assume you woke up in a Mercedes S-Class and not some ovoid shaped showpiece.

Despite three years of being left outside, assuming it’s been painted with the same care and attention to details as their actual S-Classes, the clear coat and paint underneath look surprisingly decent.

Inside, it looks like it’s come right off the car show circuit, its interior left untouched by man and nature.

The interior of the MBUX Seat Exhibit still looking decent despite three years outside.

Despite 24/7 sun exposure, the interior seems to be holding up, but for how much longer, only time measured in decades will tell.

As to why the recycling center hasn’t ripped it to shreds yet, some higher up probably sees it has more value than what it weighs in scrap.

It’s the fate of many of these types of exhibits, not to mention whole concept cars.

Earlier last year, a Tennessee resident found two whole Nissan Concept cars in the middle of a scrapyard

Perhaps we’ll see this Mercedes egg get a proper wash, detail, and thrown up on Bring A Trailer or Cars and Bids.

I can imagine someone buying this MBUX Concept and sticking it in their living room or backyard just because.

With the seats removed, it could be some sweet outside storage space.

Where did I put my gardening gloves and pruning shears? Oh yeah, it’s in the MBUX seat exhibit.
