The traffic lights might have been obscured by a new set of traffic signals. Regardless, that’s no excuse.
North Carolinian and Redditor /u/lucky-grey shared head-shaking dashcam footage from Holly Springs, NC from earlier in July (July 8, 2024) showing the hare-brained moment three drivers, including one in a top-heavy box truck, blow by a red light at this Old Holly Springs Apex Rd intersection.
Check out /u/lucky-grey’s footage below.
[OC] Your regularly scheduled reminder that you’re supposed to look at the traffic lights.

As mentioned, the incident happened in Holly Springs at the intersection of Old Holly Springs Apex Rd and New Hill Rd (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As OP’s dashcam footage shows, he comes to a stop at said intersection, pulling into the left turn-only lane.
Keen eyes will notice traffic lights going in his direction turn red, but you wouldn’t know it seeing how the next couple of drivers react.
“There was a yellow light that doesn’t show up super well on video – you can see it change just before the truck passes through,” OP clarified.
First, a big, white box truck blows past.
Then, a silver Honda Pilot, followed by a black Acura RDX.
Redditors pointed out their red light might’ve been obscured by a new set of traffic lights currently being installed.
“I think this intersection is in Holly Springs, NC. If you look closely they have hung new lights (which are covered) in front of the old lights. When you are approaching from the right lane the working lights are partially obscured. Huge liability for the town, imo. Be safe out there!” ,/u/loribean commented.

If that were the case, I would’ve seen at least one of those vehicles brake in the middle of the intersection, but none did.
The Honda Pilot and Acura RDX do brake, but only because traffic in front of them is slowing.
A driver in a black Chevrolet Silverado turning with the right of way was probably super confused as, if he wasn’t paying attention, he might’ve been t-boned by those clueless set of red-light running drivers.
“Idiots love to follow other idiots,” /u/BubbleEyedBean commented.
Hopefully, someone from the city of Holly Springs, NC sees this video ASAP.
This sets up a lot of drivers to get into a potential T-bone situation.
It’s a potentially disastrous accident that’s entirely avoidable with some proper planning.
