This driver in a Dodge Magnum did so much wrong in a short time right in front of a police officer.
West Virginia resident and Redditor /u/GreenyWV shared some head-shaking dashcam footage from earlier in July (posted on July 11, 2024) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing the harebrained moment a driver in a Dodge Magnum decided to enter a part of this intersection meant to stay clear while pulling off an illegal lane change and simultaneously hitting another car waiting patiently.
Yeah, it’s a lot.

This incident happened in Martinsburg, W. VA in the 14000 block of WV Route 45 just before Interstate 81 and Foxcroft Ave (exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As his dashcam footage shows, he’s waiting patiently behind a driver in an Audi TT also waiting patiently just after a solid white line.
Although they both have a green light, since traffic up ahead is already bunched up towards the intersection, they can’t enter the intersection without then impeding turners and traffic.
A driver in a Dodge Magnum is having none of this and takes matters into his own hands, simultaneously entering the intersection when it’s not clear, changing lanes in the intersection when it’s not legal to do so in W. VA, and hitting the waiting Audi, too.
It’s a trifecta of bad decisions.
As instant karma would have it, a W.VA Sherriff saw the whole thing and immediately pulled over the Magnum and the chasing Audi.
In some counties of W. VA, like Clarksburg, blocking an intersection is subject to a base fine of up to $145.
According to the W. VA driver’s license handbook, during the driver’s test, the book instructs you to “Do not attempt lane changes in intersections,” so it’s safe to assume you can be cited accordingly, too.
Hitting another vehicle is just plain reckless driving, an unfortunate incident where both their insurances will have to hash it out (provided the Magnum driver is even insured.)
“That part of Martinsburg is awful. Probably the worst couple of intersections I’ve ever driven in,” /u/RoutineProof6874 commented.
“Had a similar thing happen to me. Not an accident but the road on the other side of the intersection was full. I was waiting at the stop line, as any sane person would and some dumba** used the bus lane to go around me and sit in the intersection in front of me. Congratulations, so much time saved?,”/u/DareDevils999 shared.

Rest assured, that Dodge Magnum driver’s about to have his wallet drained, all thanks to his impatience.
And, on top of that, no time was saved, at all.
