This Ukranian semi-truck driver’s company just purchased this semi.

Presumed owner-operator /u/DrunkONRamen posted up frustrating dashcam footage from one of his driver’s from earlier this month (July 15, 2024) showing a red light running on NC 54 T-boning a van causing that driver to drive into his brand new semi.

Check out the dashcam footage for yourself below.

[OC] Serves me right for buying a brand new semi truck

The incident happened at the intersection of Exit 14B off I-85 and Highway 54 (exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As the dashcam video shows, OP’s driver is stopped at the intersection with NC 54.

If you’re wondering, after hearing the audio, “he’s (the driver) actually Ukranian, but comes from a Russian-speaking region in Ukraine.”

The red Chevrolet Cargo van has the right of way and begins to make a left turn.

Suddenly, a red light runner appears from the left and t-bones the cargo van driver.

This, for an unknown reason, causes the Cargo Van driver to accelerate toward OP’s brand-new semi.

Other commenters presumed the driver in the van might’ve been knocked unconscious, causing them to put their foot on the accelerator.

“Serves me right for buying a brand new semi-truck,” OP titled the thread.

“(The red light runner) took out the side skirt and damaged the fuel tank. It wasn’t compromised, and he (the Ukranian driver) was able to drive off.”

This, unfortunately, isn’t the first time this situation happened.

“(This) wouldn’t be the first time. Someone ran a red light and hit our truck. The person who ran the red ended up suing us.”

If you’re wondering, new semis cost between $175,000-$250,000, so this owner-operator has a large repair bill on their table.

“That dude is not going to have a good time with his insurance carrier,” /u/JokicandMurray responded to someone asking if the red light runner’s insurance would pay for the damage.

“That door slam was 1000 words,” /u/Brother_Lou added.

“The sigh at 35 seconds says it all,” /u/SnausageFest replied.

Thankfully, it sounds like no one was hurt in this situation.

If there’s anything I’ve gleaned from these types of accidents it’s that intersections are where your defensive driving senses should be heightened even more so.
