This Carvana delivery driver pulled an illegal maneuver by driving over a curb and turning red against a red arrow.

New Yorker and Redditor /u/primo109 shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier this week (July 26, 2024) from Ardsley to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing a Carvana driver hopping a concrete median and cutting off a driver waiting to turn right as he had a red arrow prohibiting him from turning right on red.

Check out the moronic move below.

[OC] moronic Carvana driver got impatient and drove over a curb to pass me and turn right on a red signal (you can’t see it in the frame, but there is a big “NO TURN ON RED” right next to the road)

The incident occurred at the intersection of Ashford Ave. and Saw Mill River Rd in Ardsely (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As the dashcam footage shows, /u/Primo109 is sitting in a slip-through lane to turn right on Ashford Ave that goes into Saw Mill Road.

As the video and screenshot on Google Maps shows, although it’s legal to turn right on red after yielding in New York, this particular right turn has a stop light with a turn arrow prohibiting cars from turning right if a red arrow is displayed.

Red Arrow prohibits cars from turning right on red when a red arrow is displayed.

Regardless, the Carvana driver behind OP disregards the right on red arrow and squeezes by OP on the right, running over a curb.

In New York, disobeying a traffic control device is subject to a $235 fine and two points on your record.

“Thankfully, my car was unscathed, but if I had been a little bit more to the left of the lane, I don’t know if I would have been so lucky,” OP replied to a comment.

While OP is considering reporting this incident to Carvana, I took the liberty of tweeting at them and informing Carvana Help of their wayward driver.

“I’m guessing they needed to rush away from a drop off before the customer realized their car was botched together after a crash but was sold\listed as a perfectly fine vehicle with no accidents,” /u/SativaPancake humorously commented.

“It’s f***ing insane how often I see people get upset at me for stopping when there’s a “no turn on red” sign. Whether they’re honking or edging closer and flinging up their arms or just going around like this, s*** is legitimately funny,” /u/endsinemptiness replied.

“Maybe send this to the city? If they cared, they’d get the police to issue tickets to the local Carvana office for illegal pass, running red light, and whatever else they can throw at the company. Should be good for a few hundred dollars minimum or one cheap used car,” /u/Warcraft_Fan suggested.

Contrary to popular belief, although your state might allow a right turn on red if you yield, if there are signs and traffic control devices prohibiting you from doing so, you have to obey that traffic control device, no ifs, ands, or buts.

If you come across a car stopped in a right-turn-only lane, maybe look for a traffic light or sign saying that it’s not business as usual, lest you make an a** of yourself like this Carvana driver.
