Two drivers approaching Ferst Dr. and Fowler St. both try to beat a red – end up crashing into each other.

Presumed Atlanta resident and Redditor /u/Boons_Mcgee shared head-shaking dashcam footage from Georgia Tech’s Frat Row from earlier last week (Oct 26, 2024) showing two drivers both trying to beat a red light at the same time. Still, they end up crashing into each other instead.

Check out his dashcam footage below.

The incident happened at the intersection of Ferst Dr. and Fowler St in Atlanta, GA just outside of the Georgia Institute of Technology (Location on Google Maps linked here.)

As his dashcam footage shows, OP is stopped on Ferst Dr. as cross traffic with green lights crosses the intersection.

It looks like drivers in an Acura TSX and Nissan Sentra going straight and turning left respectively both try to beat red lights or lights about to turn red.

This intersection has unprotected turns, meaning turners must yield to cross traffic first.

They collide, the TSX hitting the passenger fender of the Sentra.

The airbags on the Sentra can be seen inflating upon impact.

The side curtain airbags on this Sentra inflate upon impact.

“Luckily, no one seemed hurt. Just a little shaken up I think.”

With airbags deployed and with that amount of damage, the Sentra is likely totaled.

The TSX is probably totaled, too.

“Looks like two idiots; the guy who creamed the turning car definitely sped up to beat the red and it was probably red by the time they hit the intersection judging by when OP’s light turns green. So turning car falsely assumed they would stop for the yellow,” /u/DrudenKresuz hypothesized.

“They both ran the red. At a minimum, the time difference between red light to green needs to be 4.3 seconds. Both cars impact after 2.5 seconds, and both are at the white lines at just about 4 seconds. Both of them already had red and both ran past them. 50/50 negligence here, both getting a ticket for running a red light,” /u/JayPhat99 proposed.

“Cammer does a good Al Pacino impression,” /u/discdraft humorously added.

Both drivers learned a valuable lesson, everyone, including nearby witnesses ( if you didn’t catch it the first time, there was a woman walking near the collision who saw it all play out in real-time,) made it out unscathed.

It could’ve ended up a whole lot worse.

Now both have totaled cars and weeks of insurance calls, e-mails, and possible repairs to look forward to.
