A driver in the left turn lane of Donald Lee Hollowell Pkwy NW made the foolish decision to turn right in front of parallel traffic.

Presumed Georgian and Redditor /u/Boons_McGee shared dashcam footage from earlier last year (Apr 13, 2023) from Atlanta showing a driver making the split-second decision to turn right from a left-turn-only lane across oncoming traffic parallel to them.

Their harebrained decision ended in a relatively high-speed fender-to-fender collision.

Check out his dashcam footage below.

Idiot tries to turn right from left lane [oc]

The collision happened near the intersection of US-278 a.k.a. DL Hollowell Pkwy NW and Chappell Rd NW in Atlanta, GA (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As his dashcam footage shows, OP is stopped on US-278 ready to turn left.

Suddenly, a driver in a silver mid-2000s Honda Civic going the opposite way in the left turn-only lane decides to turn right at the last second.

With parallel traffic to the Civic driver still with a green light and the right of way, a driver in what looks like a black Hyundai Sonata attempts to cross the intersection.

With the Civic darting out in front of the Sonata and with little time to avoid a collision, the Sonata does its best to swerve out of the way..

Their last-second swerve is not enough and the Sonata ends up colliding with the Civic, fender-to-fender, at a relatively high speed.

The damage was enough to likely total the Civic.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it is the same for the Sonata, too.

“I like how the Tesla took his turn now that everyone else was distracted,” /u/PicklesAndCoorslight pointed out.

“I already know what he’s going to say. “It was his fault! He was speeding!,” /u/Kerbart predicted.

“Waze takes me that way whenever I leave late for work. Terrible intersection,” /u/WoodstockSocrates, a local commuter added.”

This was an easily avoidable accident, to say the least.

Last-second maneuvers like this only expose you to greater risks, setting yourself up for failure behind the wheel.

Do yourself a favor and don’t make right turns from left turn-only lanes, and vice-versa.
