While drivers in W. Virginia can turn right on red, they must yield, something this driver never did.
West Virginian and Redditor /u/ufo_from_Russia shared headshaking dashcam footage from West Virginia earlier this November (Nov 3, 2024) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit. The footage shows a driver in a silver RAV4 failing to yield properly while turning right-on-red, almost causing a T-bone collision.
Check out his dashcam footage below.
Insane… I wish we could report stupid drivers BEFORE accidents happen…… [oc]

The incident happened at the intersection of Old Keene Mill Rd (VA-644) and Bauer Dr (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As his dashcam footage shows, /u/ufo_from_Russia is driving on Old Keene Rd approaching the aforementioned intersection.
The speed limit is 45 MPH.
As he enters the intersection, a careless driver in a Silver Toyota RAV4 turns right-on-red without yielding to OP.
To make matters worse, instead of committing, they stop in the middle of the intersection!
Thankfully, /u/ufo_from_Russia is paying attention and slows to a complete stop while honking.
The driver in the RAV4, having narrowly avoided getting T-boned, then drives off.
“I’m still stressed after this situation even 10 hours later, /u/ufo_from_Russia added.
“I had a toddler in the backseat, and it’s just so scary how unexpected things can happen.”
“That is a hilariously special kind of stupid right there,” /u/d0ouble0h commented.
“Oh man, they are working on the same kind of mentality as a deer. That stop instead of scamper is such a bad instinct,” /u/A_Harmless_Fly added.
“This is like people who stop to tie their shoes at the bottom of an escalator,” /u/Petrarch1603 compared the driver.
Clicking around Google Maps and West Virginia seems like a well-to-do area with well-maintained and easily navigatable streets.
Regardless, defensive driving doesn’t take a day off and, even with ideal driving conditions, we have to be on guard at all times.
Thankfully, /u/ufo_from_russia was on their toes, something we have to be on behind the wheel now more than ever.
