A driver on N Broadway was stopped by this Redditor from entering an I-640 off-ramp, potentially stopping a wrong-way driving accident.
Tennessean and Redditor /u/FluffyHellHound shared dashcam footage from Knoxville from earlier last week (Nov 2, 2024) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing a driver on N Broadway attempting to use an I-640/ US Route 25W off-ramp as an on-ramp.
Thanks to /u/FluffyHellHound’s quick thinking and decisive action, he was able to stop this driver from potentially making one of the biggest driving mistakes of their life.
Check out the dashcam footage below.

The incident happened at the intersection of N Broadway and the off-ramp to I-640/US-Route 25W (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As his dashcam footage shows, he’s exiting I-640/ US Route 25W at around 8 P.M.
Suddenly, a driver on N Broadway turns left in an attempt to enter I-640 using the off-ramp.
This potentially sets him that driver up to enter I-640 the wrong way as a wrong way driver.
With not a moment to spare and putting his own vehicle and safety in danger, OP makes the split-second decision to block the driver from entering.
Thankfully, the other driver realizes their mistake, pulls to the side of the road, and makes an about-face back onto N Broadway.
Flustered, unfortunately, she then makes what looks like a right-on-red.
“To be fair, they changed that exit about 5-6 years ago and if they haven’t been through there since then, it’s very confusing,” /u/Slobberdog25 commented.
“Broadway and 640 represent! I’ve seen tons of people slow down like they’re about to turn in there, but nobody actually does it,” /u/KoopaTroopa710 commented.
“They really need to mark it better,” /u/FluffyHellHound replied.
With what the local Redditors commented, it looks like Knoxville probably needs to mark this exit better.
Here’s what the lead-up to that exit looks like on Google Maps.
Hopefully, someone from Knoxville’s public works takes notice and amends this intersection sooner rather than later before, God forbid, an unfortunate incident linked to lack of signage and road markings occurs.
