This BMW driver found out the hard way that cars aren’t allowed to drive in a theoretical gore point.

Floridian and Redditor /u/UnidentifiedTron shared headshaking dashcam footage from the Florida Turnpike from earlier this November (Nov 1, 2024) showing an impatient BMW driver using a marked-off gore point to overtake slow traffic.

Unbeknownst to the driver at first, he did it right in front of a Florida Highway Patrolman who pretty much pulled him over almost instantly.

Check out the case of instant karma below.

On todays episode of a BMW doing BMW things, we have a special appearance by FHP [OC]

The incident happened on the Florida Turnpike (a.k.a. SR-91) in Kissimmee right before Exit 249 onto E Osceola Pkwy (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As his footage shows, OP is driving in the slow lane on this particular stretch of the turnpike.

Behind him, a driver in a BMW can be seen driving past slow traffic, signaling, and going through a theoretical gore point marked off by thick, white-lined chevrons to overtake a handful of cars.

At least he signaled.

Here’s a bird’s eye view of that gore point.

Theoretical Gore Point on the FL Turnpike before Exit 249.

If you didn’t already know, gore points and theoretical gore points are meant to safely separate merging and diverging traffic.

As extensions of the roadway or freeway shoulder, it’s illegal to drive through them.

As luck would have it, he did it in front of the Florida Highway Patrol.

We see the BMW driver pulled over and presumably cited accordingly.

Driving in a gore point is akin to driving on a median or shoulder and is arguably considered reckless driving, subject to a fine up to $500, points on your record, and possible jail time (but not likely.)

“BMW’s Entitlement subscription must have expired. Their credit bounced,” /u/Head_Acanthaceae_766 humorously commented.

“Where I live, it seems like cops never pull people over anymore, so it’s nice to see it still happens somewhere,” /u/2-pan_Shapour added.

“I’ve never understood why more HiPos (Highway Patrol Officers) don’t just do this all the time during rush hour at intersections like this. Outside the person getting the tickets, NO ONE IS OBJECTING. This is at least 2 or 3 different moving violations,” /u/Hempsoz suggested.

Driving through a gore point like this is illegal for a reason, it disrupts the flow of traffic and opens you up to possibly involving yourself in an accident because of the unorthodox maneuver, not to mention stoking road rage among fellow drivers.

There’s also no good reason to do so, a slam dunk citation for any police officer.

Unless you’ve got money burning in your pocket and want to get enough points to get your license suspended, I suggest keeping that theoretical gore point nice and open.
