These cars don’t seem to mind running a red at this busy Westchase District intersection.

Houston resident and Redditor /u/fredo_166 shared headshaking dashcam footage from the Westchase District from earlier this November (Nov 2, 2024) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing multiple drivers blatantly running this red light on Westpark Dr. and S Gessner Rd.

Check out his dashcam footage linked here.

[oc] Red light runner. Wait for it, it’s worse than you think

As mentioned, this red light running was captured at the intersection of S Gessner Rd and Westpark Dr. (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As OP’s dashcam footage shows, he arrives at the mentioned intersection.

Almost immediately, a driver in a Range Rover Discovery makes a right on red without coming to a complete stop followed by a driver in a Mercedes crossover blasting through the red light.

Almost three seconds later, a driver in a dark-colored Jeep Patriot blows through the red light, too.

That’s not all.

“The red car to my right did also technically run the light by not coming to a complete stop before turning right on red, but I did cut it out because it’s not as bad as going straight through a red. The cross street had protected left arrows when they turned right on red,” /u/fredo_166 clarified.

In Houston, running a red light is subject to a total window fine of $235.

“People don’t care about red lights at all anymore. Even when it’s a stale red where cross traffic has already started moving, they’ll still blow through it. Cops don’t pull them over so they’ll keep doing it,” /u/kevinxb commented.

“Traffic in Houston keeps getting worse every year,” /u/yanman added.

“I knew exactly where this was from the first frame. Red light running is bad here but this is egregious! I am surprised there were no accidents,” local /u/namsur1234 replied.

Running red lights increases your chances of getting into an accident exponentially oftentimes resulting in thousands of dollars in damage, not to mention getting injured and possibly worse.

It’s never worth what little time you save to risk ruining your life and someone else’s.
