The flashing green arrow to the flashing red arrow to the solid green light must’ve confused this nearly t-boned Honda Accord driver.

Cook County-area driver and Redditor /u/Tranquilovely shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier in April (Apr 21, 2026) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing a driver, confused by this particular Schaumburg intersection left turn signal, failing to yield to traffic with the right of way, and nearly getting t-boned.

Check out the near miss below with the original Reddit thread linked here.

As mentioned, the incident happened at the intersection of Schaumburg and Roselle (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

In the dashcam, OP is headed southbound down Roselle.

At Schaumburg Rd & Roselle, a green arrow means you have a protected left turn, and oncoming traffic is stopped. A flashing yellow arrow or solid green means you can turn left, but only if you yield to oncoming traffic. The key idea is: only the green arrow guarantees it’s fully your turn, everything else requires you to wait for a safe gap.

Most of the drivers turning in front of OP got the memo, except for this one Honda Accord driver who, when faced with the transition between a flashing yellow to solid green, just brute forced his way through, rules of the road be damned.

Their ignorance almost got them t-boned.

“I drive through that intersection every day on my way to work, and this happens EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. without fail. It’s an epidemic in the whole Chicagoland area,” one of the top comments from local /u/Fresh_Can_Eater reads.

“Roselle road!!! This intersection sucks,” /u/lemonlin0925, another local added.

“You might want to bring this issue up to your local city council member and see if they have ideas about what you can do. I did that, and the county ended up auditing some of the systems at major intersections in DuPage County. They never told me all the results, but one intersection got better,” /u/dachloe replied to OP, commenting how short the time in-between lights contributed to this near miss.

In Schaumburg, Illinois, failing to yield to traffic with the right of way is typically a moving violation with fines that often total around $120–$250 with court costs. It usually adds 3 points to your Illinois driving record. If it’s part of risky driving, it can be upgraded to careless or reckless driving with higher penalties.
