Dashcam owner says this alleged DUI driver on State Highway 71 was going at least 70 MPH.

Texan and Redditor /u/CSFFlame shared shocking dashcam footage from earlier in November (Nov 10, 2024) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing a driver in the middle of the night on State Hwy 71 W allegedly under the influence driving the wrong way at highway speeds.

Check out his dashcam footage below.

The incident took place on a stretch of SH-71 W just before Highway 90 (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

“It was around 11:30 PM on Saturday, so prime drunk driver time,” /u/CSFFlame clarified.

As his dashcam footage shows, he’s driving along a curved portion of 71W when the bright headlights of an oncoming car can be seen coming towards him in the fast lane.

“I initially thought he was on the correct side of the road with the other car due to the turn,” /u/CSFFlame commented.

“I was shocked, and instead braked as he departed my lane, swerving off the road would not have helped, as he was already out of my lane.”

“After he passed me, he crossed the outside lane lane, but does not leave the roadway.”

Although OP states this other driver was going at least 70 MPH, it appears the footage does not support that claim.

/u/CSFFlame does not provide any further update on what happened to the alleged driver under the influence.

Based on the footage, the best we can do is infer what happened next.

“I swear I could see him slowing down in an, “Ahhh, s***. Wrong side,” moment,” /u/IHaveCakeWantSome commented.

“If only there was a way for drivers to know. Maybe the giant signs at the off ramp that he used as an on-ramp that says do not enter? Maybe every single speed sign and exit sign that is just a blank silver sign? Maybe the road reflectors that are normally white are all red? Maybe the other cars all driving directly towards them?,” /u/CrazyPete42 added.

“That exact spot used to be a state trooper “speed trap” back in the day,” local /u/Horror_Hippo_1552 also added.

In Texas, first-time DWI offenders are subject to a fine of up to $2,000 and/or up to six months in jail not to mention a multi-year license suspension, several thousands in surcharges to keep your license active, and the possibility of an ignition interlock installation.

There is no good excuse to drive under the influence.

Hopefully, this driver is caught before he injures himself, others, or worse.
