Although the Mazda driver sure looked like the villain, the dashcam owner wasn’t without fault.

SoCal resident and Redditor /u/EmJayd shared headshaking dashcam footage from Culver City from earlier last week (Dec 6, 2024) showing a driver in their Mazda Whatever scooted out into traffic from this Carls Jr driveway, blocking /u/EmJayd.

And, when given a friendly honk to clear the way, the driver insisted on literally playing games, instead, feeding into the road rage instead of trying to defuse it.

Check out the video from his Reddit thread below.

[OC] Why do people take a tap on the horn personally? Guy challenges me to a game of rock/paper/scissors because I asked him to scooch back so I could get into the right turn lane.

As mentioned, the incident happened in Culver City in the 3800 block of Sepulveda Blvd (exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As the dashcam footage shows, OP is not without fault as, moments before approaching the driveway, he was technically driving over parking spots and on the shoulder, too early before they were supposed to enter the turn lane.

According to the DMV Handbook, “If a designated right turn lane is available, enter at the opening.”

Here’s a birds-eye view of the area and where the opening is.

OP was supposed to enter the right turn lane further down the road in front of the Carls Jr, so he wasn’t without fault either.

Regardless, a driver in the Carls Jr driveway in their Mazda CX-5 can be seen looking for an opening to get through, but the nose of his Mazda is poking out into traffic, blocking OP’s lane.

With nowhere to go, OP gives a polite honk.

The Mazda driver takes that personally.

Instead of backing up just the slightest, he doubles down and goes forward, further blocking OP.

Furthermore, he rolls down his window and starts yapping.

And, to top it all off, he tries to initiate a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors, for some odd reason.

Finally, traffic in front clears, the Mazda driver gets into the lane he wants, and OP makes his way to his right turn, although many commenters point out they swung wide into the wrong way.

“You right-turned into the left lane! For shame!” /u/Jandishhulk points out.

“I’m pretty sure most people would have waved sorry and moved back. What a d****e canoe,” /u/bigbusta commented.

“I feel like he didn’t realize he was blocking you and thought you were “kindly” insisting he goes ahead of you, while he wanted to go straight through the intersection. So he’s like “is this what you wanted dumba**?!” And you’re like “uhhhh. no.”,” /u/doctormyeyebrows pointed out what could’ve been a misunderstanding.

If OP had the right of way in this situation, I would’ve been on his side.

However, seeing how they were driving on the shoulder illegally, I can’t point my finger at any of them one way or the other.

What the Mazda driver did, however, did stoke the flames of road rage, however slightly so, if there was an opportunity to work towards the greater good, perhaps letting OP through wouldn’t be all that bad?

What do you think?
