Slightly damp NOVA roads contributed to this idiotic driver losing control, taking this Route 50 turn too fast for conditions.
Nova commuter and Redditor /u/Caadbury shared headshaking dashcam footage from Fairfax, VA from earlier last week (Dec 10, 2024) showing a driver in a dealership pre-owned BMW X7, likely on a test drive, skidding out of control on Barkley and Route 50 head-on into his vehicle.
Check out his dashcam footage below with his Reddit thread linked here.
The incident happened on Barkley Gate Dr just before the intersection with US-50 (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As OP’s dashcam footage shows, they’re stopped just before the aforementioned intersection.
The roads are slightly damp.
Suddenly, a driver in a BMW X7 comes careening around the corner from US-50, understeers out of control, and slams head-on into OP’s vehicle.
OP’s hood can be seen folding up as a result of the collision.
Considering how fast the BMW was going and the forces involved, both vehicles likely suffered tens of thousands in damage and I would not be surprised if one of them is totaled.
For what it’s worth, the nearest BMW dealership, BMW of Fairfax, is not that far away.
“I can’t believe it! A BMW with its turn signal on,” /u/gardenfella humoursly commented.
“That would’ve been an optimistic turn even on completely dry roads,” /u/kaehvogel pointed out.
“You wreck it, you buy it,” /u/PygmeePony put it.
Test drive or not, one thing’s for sure, someone’s insurance, the driver’s or the dealership’s, will have to deal with this holiday headache.
